Gone Android

Android logoBack when the old cell phone started dying on me, and I accepted it was time to upgrade, the first thing that came to mind was, “Now, it’s time to get an iPhone.”

Have to admit, just emotionally, that would have been my first choice.

However, my next door neighbor has one, and complains about the signal in our neighborhood. AT&T isn’t particularly well know for its coverage in San Diego, but it’s especially bad here, in our little “valley,” with no data service, and rarely more than one or two bars of voice signal.

That left me looking for my next choice, and that led me to Android.

Web-Based Email Grows-up

Every now and again, there’s a cool little app that comes-along, and makes life easier.

Let me introduce, “Affixa.”

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Chris Wood in the UK (Affixa’s developer) over the past months, and now that the beta is done, and the product is in release, I have to rave.

Download Affixa now!

Affixa lets you make your web-based email application your system’s default email client (right-click a file, and send using Gmail, or Yahoo…).

Google’s GrandCentral May Still Have a Future

GrandCentral from GoogleIf you’re not familiar with GrandCentral, it’s a nifty beta (web-based) telephone system Google acquired in July of 2007.

Naturally, those of us using (and loving) the service were excited about the possibilities.

I use GrandCentral here at webgroupWest (it was only made available in the US).

What is GrandCentral? In a nutshell, you sign-up, and get a free phone number associated with your account. From the (web) interface, you can set-up GrandCentral to ring any (of several) phones simultaneously (home, cell, office, etc.), each time someone calls your GrandCentral number.

A Small Improvement in Gmail Contacts

I find it hard to believe that I’m the first person to notice this (and I follow the blogosphere pretty closely), but when I fired-up Gmail this morning, and went to add a contact, I found a subtle (but welcome) improvement.

It used to be that the contact fields, “Title,” and “Company” were buried down in the “More Information” section.

Now, they’re more conveniently located beneath the name:
