Making The Most of Mobile IM

Trillian for Android, public betaUpdate: The folks at Trillian released an update today.

When you run your own small or medium-sized business, it’s becoming increasingly crucial to leverage instant messaging, and on mobile phones, that’s been a rather cumbersome experience, with separate apps for each of the major IM platforms (Yahoo!, MSN, GTalk, etc.).

While some of those are pretty good (and others are not), there’s a (large) negative impact on your battery life to run them all simultaneously, and they all have very different user interfaces (ranging from the great, to the dismal).

On a computer, there are some fantastic multi-protocol applications, such as Digsby & Trillian, which allow you to be logged-into all of your IM accounts simultaneously, through a consistent user interface.

While the folks @ Digsby haven’t done much to move to the Android mobile world, Trillian recently released a public beta of their new Android app, and it’s pretty exciting!

Los Angeles Has “Gone Google”

It’s no surprise that we’re big fans of Google Apps, and as it makes great inroads in corporations of all sizes, it turns-out that governments are finding it a great, secure, and economical way to cut costs.

The City of Los Angeles is about to “Go Google”, saving LA taxpayers more than $5.5 million as opposed to other office suite alternatives.
